Identifying and Diagnosing Failing Semantic 3-D Annotations

Failure Notifications for 3-D Annotations in Model-Based Definition help to identify and diagnose failing semantic 3-D annotations faster and more intuitively.

  • Annotation types include: Dimensions

  • Geometric tolerances (GTOLS)

  • Datum feature symbols (DFS)

  • Datum targets

  • Failing annotations are color-coded: Orange — Only weak references are missing.

  • Red — At least one strong reference is missing.

Failure notifications for 3-D Annotations in Model-Based Definition help to identify and diagnose failing semantic 3-D annotations faster and more intuitively.

Failure notifications is improved for semantic 3-D annotations such as dimensions, geometric tolerances (GTOLS), datum feature symbols (DFS), and datum targets. The improved graphical display of those 3-D annotations and missing references makes it easier to identify the failure and then diagnose the cause of failure. The graphical annotation display is color-coded and indicates whether strong or weak references are missing. Additionally, there are icons in the model tree and detail tree which indicate the failing annotation.

A 3-D annotation can fail when it loses a reference or when it may be unable to regenerate. The diagnostic display of failing annotations is color-coded as per the following:

  • Orange — Only weak references are missing.

  • Red — At least one strong reference is missing.

Set the configuration option, highlight_failed_3d_annotations to yes to control the new graphical display of failure notifications for 3D Annotations.

With the improved graphical display and diagnostics, you can identify and fix failing 3-D annotations faster and more intuitively.

Steps

  • Task 1. Identify and diagnose the failed annotations using the Notification Center. Disable all Datum Display types.

  • In the ribbon, select the Annotate tab.

  • Select the 7D combined state tab.

  • In the model tree, click Settings Figure and select Tree Filters Figure . Select the Annotation check box.

  • Click OK .

  • In the model tree, expand Annotations .

  • In the detail tree, select gp13 .

  • Click References Figure from the References group.

  • Notice that the annotation has a weak reference. Figure

  • Click Cancel .

  • Select the R.188 dimension, and then click References Figure .

  • Notice that the annotation has a strong reference.

  • Click Cancel .

  • Select the 0.375 dimension, and then click References Figure .

  • Notice that the annotation has a strong reference. Figure

  • Click Cancel .

  • Click in the background to de-select the annotation.

  • In the graphics window, select HOLE_1_1 feature.

  • Click Suppress Figure from the mini toolbar. Click OK .

  • Notice that the failed notification message appears. Figure

  • Notice that the annotations of the suppressed features are still visible in different colors in the graphics window. Figure Orange color represents failed annotations with weak references. Red color represents failed annotations that has one or more strong references.

  • Notice that the failed annotations in the details tree are shown with different symbols. Figure

  • If necessary, scroll up the model tree and notice that the failed annotations are shown with different symbols. Figure

  • Click Model Notifications Figure from the status bar and select Open Notification Center in the Notification Pop-Up menu.

  • In the Notification Center dialog box, expand the nodes, as shown. Figure

  • Notice the failing annotations.

  • Select SENSOR-MOUNT_IDENTIFY_FAILING.PRT to observe that the failed features are highlighted in the graphics window. Figure

  • Click Close .

  • In the quick access toolbar, expand the Undo drop-down list and select Undo: Suppress . Figure
