Reviewing Minimally Dimensioned Parts

Combination states can be configured for minimally dimensioned parts.

  • Merge combined states

  • Minimal schema

  • Only non-standard dimensions

  • Benefits Fewer annotations = quicker, cheaper to create.

  • Inspection planning

Figure

Figure 3 - D7_Non-Standard You can configure combined states for minimally dimensioned parts using the following techniques:

  • Merge combined states — Information that may typically be shown using two or more combined states can be shown in a single state.

  • Minimal schema.

  • Only non-standard dimensions: Only dimensions with GD&T are shown.

  • No basic dimensions are shown.

  • Reduces perceived model complexity.

Consider the following for minimally dimensioned parts:

  • Benefits — Fewer annotations are quicker and less costly to create.

  • Inspection planning — Consider the First Article Inspection (FAI) needs and methods for the product.

Steps

  • Task 1. Review combined states belonging to a minimally dimensioned Model. Disable all Datum Display types.

  • In the ribbon, select the Annotate tab. Select the D0_Model combined state tab.

  • Notice this state is unchanged.

Figure

  • Select the D1_Map combined state tab. Notice this state now only indicates D7 as the one manufacturing definition state.

Figure

  • Select the D2_General combined state tab. Notice this state now has the D0_Default state (proprietary notices) incorporated.

Figure

  • Select the D3_Properties combined state tab. Notice this state is unchanged.

  • Select the D5_Datums combined state tab. Notice this state is unchanged.

Figure

  • Select the D7_Non-Standard combined state tab. Notice this is the only state with GD&T callouts.
