Understanding MBD Model Types

Understanding MBD Model Types

To understand what an MBD model is, it is first necessary to define what it is not. A traditional 3-D model with no annotations is not an MBD model.s.

Model types include:

  • Inseparable assemblies

  • Installations and assemblies

  • Cables/Wire harnesses

  • Piping and waveguide

  • Composite panels and sandwich structures

  • Weldments

  • Castings

  • Forgings and stampings

  • Sheetmetal or thermal blankets

  • Inseparable assemblies — For example, machined parts with inserts.

  • Installations and assemblies — Work instructions, assembly models containing both parts and subassemblies, as well as manufacturing tools including jigs and fixtures.

  • Cables and wire harnesses.

  • Piping and waveguide.

  • Composite panels and sandwich structures — Face sheets, cores, inserts, and so on.

  • Weldments

  • Castings

  • Forgings and stampings

  • Sheetmetal or thermal blankets
