Creating Datum Feature Symbols on Geometry

You can create Datum Feature Symbols on geometry.

  • Select planar or cylindrical surfaces.

  • Typically created on the 5_Datums combined state.

  • System auto-increments the label name.

  • Add semantic references.

  • Additional options

The 5_Datums combined state is typically used to display the datum feature symbols.

Use the following process to create Datum Feature Symbols on geometry:

  • Click Datum Feature Symbol Figure from the Annotations group in the ribbon.

  • Select the desired planar or cylindrical surface on which to place the datum feature symbol. The plunger is created at that pick point location.

  • Drag the cursor to extend the label and middle-click to place the datum feature symbol.

  • Edit the name as desired from the Label group in the ribbon. The system automatically labels the datum feature symbol the next incremental alphabetical label, but you can type your own desired label in, too.

  • Add semantic reference surfaces as appropriate.

  • Configure any additional options as necessary.

Steps

  • Task 1. Create datum feature symbols on geometry using planar surfaces. Disable all Datum Display types.

  • In the ribbon, select the Annotate tab.

  • Select the 5_Datums combined state tab.

  • Click LEFT Figure from the Annotation Planes group.. Figure

  • Click Datum Feature Symbol Figure from the Annotations group.

  • Select the top, flat surface and drag upward. Figure

  • Middle-click to place the datum feature symbol. Figure

  • Notice that the system automatically labeled the datum feature symbol.

  • Right-click and select Change Reference .

  • Select the rear, flat surface, drag up, and middle-click to place the datum feature symbol. Figure

  • In the ribbon, click Elbow Figure from the Display group.

  • Click Straight Figure from the Display group. Figure

  • Click References Figure from the References group.

  • Press CTRL and select the other two coplanar surfaces. Figure

  • Click OK from the References dialog box.

  • Click in the background to de-select all geometry. All three surfaces are now semantic references to the datum feature symbol.

  • From the In Graphics toolbar, click Saved Orientations Figure and select 3D2 .

  • Click Datum Feature Symbol Figure . Select the bottom surface shown.

  • Drag the cursor down and middle-click to place the datum feature symbol.
