The 5_Datums combined state is typically used to display the datum feature symbols.
Use the following process to create Datum Feature Symbols on geometry:

Click Datum Feature Symbol
from the Annotations group in the ribbon.

Select the desired planar or cylindrical surface on which to place the datum feature symbol. The plunger is created at that pick point location.

Drag the cursor to extend the label and middle-click to place the datum feature symbol.

Edit the name as desired from the Label group in the ribbon. The system automatically labels the datum feature symbol the next incremental alphabetical label, but you can type your own desired label in, too.

Add semantic reference surfaces as appropriate.

Configure any additional options as necessary.

Steps

Task 1. Create datum feature symbols on geometry using planar surfaces. Disable all Datum Display types.

In the ribbon, select the Annotate tab.

Select the 5_Datums combined state tab.

Click LEFT
from the Annotation Planes group..
-
Click Datum Feature Symbol
from the Annotations group.

Select the top, flat surface and drag upward.
-
Middle-click to place the datum feature symbol.
-
Notice that the system automatically labeled the datum feature symbol.

Right-click and select Change Reference .
-
Select the rear, flat surface, drag up, and middle-click to place the datum feature symbol.

In the ribbon, click Elbow
from the Display group.

Click Straight
from the Display group.
-
Click References
from the References group.
-
Press CTRL and select the other two coplanar surfaces.
-
Click OK from the References dialog box.
-
Click in the background to de-select all geometry. All three surfaces are now semantic references to the datum feature symbol.

From the In Graphics toolbar, click Saved Orientations
and select 3D2 .

Click Datum Feature Symbol
. Select the bottom surface shown.

Drag the cursor down and middle-click to place the datum feature symbol.

Click in the background to de-select all geometry.

From the In Graphics toolbar, click Saved Orientations
and select LEFT .

Notice that the system has automatically incremented the datum feature symbol’s name.

Task 2. Create a datum feature symbol on a cylindrical surface. From the In Graphics toolbar, click Saved Orientations
and select 3D1 .

Click BACK
from the Annotation Planes group.

Click Datum Feature Symbol
.

Select the cylindrical surface.
-
Drag the cursor and middle-click to place the datum feature symbol.

Click References
, press CTRL, and select the other cylindrical surface. Click OK .
