Figure 3 - Inserting a Break You can modify the display of dimension extension lines (also referred to as witness lines):

Trim extension lines When a dimension is selected, you can cursor over the extension line endpoints. The system displays a drag handle at the endpoint that you can click and drag to trim or extend the extension line or lines. You can also right-click the endpoint and select Clip All . The system then clips or extends all extension endpoints equally.

Erase and show extension lines Select a dimension, then cursor over an extension line, right-click, and select Erase Witness Line . The specified witness line is erased from the graphics window. To display the erased extension lines, select the dimension, right-click, and select Show Witness Lines .

Insert and remove jogs Select a dimension, then cursor over an extension line, right-click, and select Insert Jog . Then select two jog point locations. The first point should be on the extension line at the location where the jog is to be inserted. You can cursor over each of the jog point locations and drag the handle.

Insert and remove breaks Select a dimension, then cursor over an extension line, right-click, and select Insert Break
. Then select two break point locations. A gap, or break, in the extension line is created. You can cursor over each of the break endpoints and drag the handles.

Steps

Task 1. Trim various extension lines. Disable all Datum Display types.

In the ribbon, select the Annotate tab. Select the 7A combined state tab.

Select the 3.000 dimension. Cursor over the left extension line endpoint.

Notice the drag handle that displays.

Drag the left extension line forward until it no longer touches the model.

Cursor over the right extension line endpoint, and drag it forward until it no longer touches the model.

Select the 1.500 dimension. Cursor over the right extension line endpoint, and drag it forward until it no longer touches the model.

Select the 4.650 dimension. Cursor over the upper extension line endpoint, and drag it to the left until just before it touches the model.

Cursor over the lower extension line endpoint, and drag it to the left until just before it touches the model.

Task 2. Erase and show extension lines. With the 4.650 dimension selected, cursor over the upper extension line, right-click, and select Erase Witness Line .

Select the 2.210 dimension. Cursor over the lower extension line, right-click, and select Erase Witness Line .

Click in the background to de-select all dimensions.

Press CTRL and select both the 2.210 and 4.650 dimensions. Right-click and select Show Witness Lines .

Click in the background to de-select all dimensions.

Task 3. Insert and remove jogs from extension lines. Select the 4.650 dimension. Cursor over the upper extension line, right-click, and select Insert Jog .

Click the extension line at about its midpoint to select the first jog point.

Move the cursor up and off the extension line and click to select the second jog point.

Cursor over the first jog point and notice the drag handle. Drag the handle to the left.

Cursor over the second jog point and drag it to the location shown.

Create a jog on the lower extension line for the 2.210 dimension.

With the 2.210 dimension selected, cursor over one of the jog points, right-click, and select Remove Jog .

Task 4. Insert and remove breaks from extension lines. With the 2.210 dimension selected, cursor over the upper extension line, right-click, and select Insert Break
. Click the extension line at about its midpoint to select the first break point.

Move the cursor to the right and click the extension line to select the second break point.

Notice the break in the extension line.

Cursor over the first break point and drag it to the left.

Cursor over the second break point and drag it to the location shown.

Cursor over one of the break points, right-click, and select Remove Break . Notice that the break is removed from the extension line.
