Figure 2 - Viewing Semantic Datum Feature Symbols You can establish intelligent semantic reference links to facilitate machine-readable information in your Model Based Definition (MBD) model. You can establish semantic links for the following:

  • Model geometry — Select the annotation to edit it and click References from the References group in the annotation’s ribbon. Then press CTRL and select additional surface references to add them to the collector. You can add additional surface references for the following annotations: Dimensions, both driving and driven. Within the References dialog box you can also specify the dimension origin by selecting the Origin check box for either the First Dimension Reference or the Second Dimension Reference.

  • Datum feature symbols

  • Datum targets

  • Existing datum feature symbols — You can reference an existing datum feature symbol by typing its label name into any of the datum modifier fields. The resulting datum reference symbol text becomes green in the field, confirming that the semantic reference has been established. If you then modify the datum feature symbol label, any location where the semantic reference has been established automatically updates to the modified label name. You can create semantic references between datum feature symbols and the following annotations: Geometric Tolerances
