Understanding Annotation Orientations

The annotation orientation defines which 2-D plane dimensions and annotations will display on, along with their orientation.

  • Choose orientation Similar to drawing view

  • Orientation Gallery Annotation planes

  • Direction arrows

  • Activating Orient to Active

Figure 3 - Switching Annotation Planes Before creating annotations, you determine the desired annotation orientation. This is similar to determining which view of a 2-D drawing you would be detailing.

Within the Annotation tab in the ribbon, the Orientation Gallery contains icons for the various default Annotation Planes. Each icon illustrates the model as a cube with a highlighted annotation plane shown relative to the model.

Once an annotation plane is selected or created, a representative grid appears over the model. Arrows appear in the center of the grid to indicate orientation:

  • The blue arrow is the line of sight, and can be flipped to change viewing direction.

  • The red arrow is text rotation, and can be flipped to change the reading orientation.

You can activate an annotation plane by selecting the appropriate icon from the Orientation Gallery. Once an annotation plane is active, you may want to click Active Annotation Plane
