Welcome to This PTC Training Class
Welcome to This PTC Training Class
Prior to using the training materials in this course, you must read the information in the following pages. This information explains how to:
- Use the training materials most effectively.
- Download the exercise files and configure your computer for the class.
- Navigate within the digital guide.
How to Use This Course
The information in this digital guide is organized into modules which are comprised of topics. Each topic is divided into one or more of the following sections:
- Concept — The Concept contains detailed information about the topic, including text and images.
- Labs — There are two different types of labs that you will use in this course:
- Procedures — Procedures provide step-by-step instructions on how to complete the topic within Creo Parametric. Procedures are short, focused, and simple labs that cover the specific topics to which they apply. Not every topic has a Procedure as there are knowledge topics that cannot be exercised.
- Exercises — Exercises are longer than procedures and are typically more involved and use more complicated models. Exercises may be specific to a topic or may cover multiple topics, so not every topic will have an associated exercise. You may also have Challenge exercises and Project exercises, which are more involved and are used to review a broader range of information.
The first module is typically a process module. In the process module, you are introduced to the generic high-level processes used during the course and after the course is completed. This module also typically contains an exercise.
Most courses also have a project module, which encapsulates the knowledge gained in the course. The project will contain one or more exercises that provide the process steps, but remove much of the detail from the procedure, task, and detailed step levels. Thus, students are encouraged to remember and reuse the information provided in the course.
Note that not all the courses have process or project modules.
Before Performing the Exercises
The exercises are performed on your installation of Creo Parametric 6.0 software. Make sure that the version of Creo Parametric that corresponds to the course you are taking (for example, Creo Parametric 6.0) is installed on your computer before continuing. Contact your administrator to ensure that you have the proper license to the Creo Parametric 6.0 software modules required to complete the lab exercises in the course you are taking.
Ensure that you are running Creo without any config.pro file to display the exercises as shown in the training.
Installing the Creo Parametric Model Files
-
Download the model files.
- Locate the appropriate link from the Lab and Demo Files download page or from the top of any Procedure to download lab files.
- Save the zip file to your desktop, or your preferred location.
-
Extract the zip file to a location on your hard drive.
- If you do not have WinZip installed on your computer, you can download an evaluation copy from www.winzip.com.
- Double-click the zip file to open it.
- Click Extract, and specify a plain drive letter (for example C:\ or D:). The C:\ drive is used for this example.
- Make sure that the Use folder names option is selected.
- Click Extract and close WinZip when finished.
-
Browse to the folder created by the zip file.
- For example: C:\PTCU\CreoParametric6
- Note that there are many subfolders below CreoParametric6. The lab files are organized in subfolders based on functional area, like Round or Sweep, for example. Within each functional area folder are the working directories for the lab exercises. The instructions in each Procedure and Exercise indicate which working directory you should use.
